Tennessee Williams on "The Last Picture Show"

I thought the film was brilliant in showing us what time does, what time takes away, what time destroys, what time allows us to believe--against all judgment--about ourselves and others. Time bombs rest in the bodies of all the characters, and they search, in vain, for ways to re-set them, remove them, avoid the blast. Everything recedes. Everything is lost. Memory and dust are all that will remain."--Tennessee Williams on Peter Bogdanovich's The Last Picture Show, which featured Cybill Shephered (pictured) as the prettiest girl in a small, dying Texas town.
